Songs of Prophecy
a composition for satb choir, string quartet and handbells
by Robert Train Adams
masterlist
: choral
Duration
16'30"
Description
I've long wanted to work with the texts Handel used in
Messiah, but didn't want to necessarily just write a modern-day
Messiah of my own (Handel did it so well!). I liked the idea
of including handbells (allowing for both new players and veterans), both
for their contrast to strings (a bow to Handel) and for the challenges
and opportunities offered by idiomatic writing for bells. My work is much
shorter than Handel's, and is intended for either concert or church use,
short enough in the latter case to be used in its entirety as an extended
anthem or musical sermon.
